Howlin' Hobbit On Video!

It occurred to me that I was posting a bunch of videos lately and there was no place to find a centralized list of them except going to my YouTube channel page. This page will end that confusion. (I hope!)

Videos are listed with the most recent at the top. I've chosen to link to the YouTube page rather than embed the videos because as the collection grows the page will get slower and slower as well as unstable and I'm not really keen on crashing your browser for you.

Sausage is a tune written by T. Spae and a nice studio version of it is available on the Snake Suspenderz latest CD, Serpentine. I put together this solo version on my Ohana sopranino.

The video is also an experiment with making my videos a bit different (i.e. not all being just titles, me sitting on my couch and playing, titles).

It was recorded on April 23, 2009.

This version of Makin' Whoopee was for the March Open Invitational at Ukulele Cosmos. I'm pretty pleased with it because I'd just added a bit to my "chord solo" part. Between that and the whistling, it really expanded the tune. This is important when you're trying to get multiple sets together as a solo!

This was recorded on March 27, 2009.

King of the Road is one of my favorite tunes. I played it on the Glyph soprano and played around with some fancier effects in iMovie as well. You can read the story behind the video in my blog.

This was recorded on March 14, 2009.

It's Only A Paper Moon is a video response I did to the Lovely Miss Jess's version. I'm playing it on the Ohana sopranino, tune up a fourth to F tuning. I talk about that a bit more in my blog entry on this video.

This was recorded on February, 21, 2009. I fairly blazed through the editing — I'm learning at least the basics on iMovie — and had it online later that evening.

Jitterbug Blues is a song I co-wrote with K.W. Todd back in 1987. I blogged about it here, giving the history of the tune as well as some thoughts on songwriting.

I did the video shots on 12/1/08 but it took me some hours on the 2nd to get it edited to my (reasonable) satisfaction. I let the eMac cook it overnight and uploaded it today, December 3, 2008.

A Simple Rag & a thank you is a little fingerpicked rag I put together after being inspired by some of the picking in this Pete Howlett video (and some of his tutorials). I also added a thank you because at the time I recorded it -- November 17, 2008 -- I had just recently crossed 100 subscibers to my YouTube channel.

Girl From Ipanema, the wonderful Bossa Nova tune by Antonio Carlos Jobim, has long been a favorite of mine. This video not only marks me finally learning it, but also at last getting around to recording something with my Tiki Flea.

This one was uploaded on September 4, 2008.

Teddy Bear's Picnic is a rather creepy kid's tune from near the turn of the last century. I'm performing it in the key of Bm and in D tuning. You can download a pdf of this arrangement and try it out yourself.

This is the first "public" appearance of T.R., my Ohana sopranino ukulele.

This is also the first video I ever used iMovie on (thanks to a loaner Mac laptop). I uploaded it on June 5, 2008. Nowadays I have my own eMac so turning these out is beginning to get easier.

What A Wonderful World was written in 1967 by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele. Satchmo made it famous and Bruddah Iz mixed his own take on it into his most famous medley. I posted this to YouTube on May 11, 2008.

I also uploaded a pdf of this arrangement for C tuned ukulele to my Mediafire account so you can try it out for yourself.

Fly Me To The Moon was originally recorded by Kaye Ballard in 1954 (the same year it was written). Penned by Bart Howard, it was defined by Frank Sinatra on his 1964 album, "It Might As Well Be Swing."

I uploaded this one on May 7, 2008.

Don't Get Around Much Anymore, another of my favorite jazz standards, this one by Duke Ellington and Bob Russell. Posted on February 19, 2008.

My arrangement is heavily based on the tabs by Curt Sheller. If you want to learn the tune, go check 'em out.

Ain't Misbehavin', another jazz standard, this one by my hero Thomas "Fats" Waller along with Andy Razaf (who also rocks) and Harry Brooks. Posted on February 13, 2008.

This is from their 1929 Broadway hit, "Hot Chocolates."

All of Me, a jazz standard written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons. Posted on February 8, 2008,

This is the first song I arranged a "chord solo" part for (with an added cool lick by my friend Lonesome Steve Mitchell).
